I've been working with ball pythons for over ten years now. Two years ago I decided to breed them as a business. I run a small operation. Currently I have approximately 100 snakes in my breeding program and hope to produce over 200 babies in the 2013 breeding season. I've always been fascinated by reptiles, snakes in particular, and being able to work with them every day is very satisfying.

Hello! I recently just bought an albino ball python in a 40 gallon screen-top tank. At first I purchased a 50 watt infrared bulb, and when I realized I could not get the temperatures I wanted with this, replaced it with a 75. The warm side of his tank usually sticks around 90 degrees as I have the light and the heat pad underneath this side of the tank. Although, my cool side of the tank will not rise above 76 degrees. The most confusing part is, that is where my guy likes to hang out- in the 76 degree area. I’ve tried covering the top of the tank with cardboard and a towel and it’s working but not very well. Any suggestions? I just looking to make this guy as comfortable as possible.
Also, if I always use an infrared light because he is an albino, should I let it run 24/7? I know I need to mimick day/night, but without the light I lose a lot of heat. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Seeing as I am an upcoming ball python owner, I was wondering if I could use my old military helmet as a hide for the lovely animal, is it possible?
