Ive been a waitress at waffle house for quite awhile now. I take orders and generally try to cater to, and please even the most difficult customers. I enjoy my job, However there are always obstacles when dealing with so many human beings. Ask me anything!
As much as id like to answer that, I honestly have no idea what the owner of our restaurant makes.
**Out of curiousity i had a conversation with my manager and the owner makes more than 6-figures!
At our particular waffle house I do believe the kitchen is fairly sanitary. Admittedly we do at times use our hands to touch food items, Most often BEFORE the cooking process as we are constantly moving very quickly to get things out to our customers. But we also all wash our hands about every 30 mins. We just had a health inspection and pass with 100%.
I cannot however speak for EVERY location.
My favorite customers are the ones who are happy, pleasant and understanding. I dont care how needy they are as long as they treat me with respect.
My Least favorite customers are just the opposite of that. We have PLENTY people come in that are just plain Hostile from the moment they arrive. They are impatient, rude and ungrateful, also they dont tip. They cannot be satisfied and they treat you like garbage. Unfortunately we get ALOT of these people. We just learn to deal with them in the best way we can.
I work the overnight shift 9pm-7am and i assure you we DO get alot of unruly people overnight, drunk or not. Every Fri and Sat night (busiest times) we have an officer who comes and sits inside our store. He's there for several hours until most of the bar/club rushes are over with. He's there to ensure our safety, manage large crowds and help deal with drunks/rude people.
He is awesome btw. :-)

Has anyone ever caught you surveilling them, and what happened?
Management is absolutely aware of it. They often have to deal with it themselves. Like most places Waffle House tries to enforce a "Every customer leaves happy" policy to ensure that people dont complain to corporate and keep coming back to our stores.
I get paid a bit over $4 an hour.
The All Star meal. Similar to the Grand Slam at Denny's. It comes with a waffle, your choice of side, your choice of toast, and your choice of meat for under 10 dollars. It is the best deal on the menu.
We arent trained at all on how to respond to a robbery! It would probably be a good idea to train the overnight staff such as myself, how to effectively react.
Also, as mentioned before, on certian nights we do have a deputy stay with us for several hours for security. Other than the its up to the individuals to react however they deem necassary.
The only critters ive seen in our store would be the occasional ant or gnat in the lobby. Ive never seen a roach and NEVER any type of rodent. Im not sure if i would be obligated to report them to the health inspector but i would definitely inform my manager if i ever saw anything like that.
I honestly wouldnt really know. I suppose it all depends on the employers perspective. If i were being interviewed for a fine dining type enviornment then it would probably be considered low on the scale of server experience. Upscale resturants have a different set of guidelines regarding "How to serve" properly, They would probably be concerned with the ability to break the "bad habits" of someone used to this type of enviornment. However, if i were to be interviewed for a job at a sports bar or different sort of family-like resturant, they may have a different opinion.
I think Waffle House is pretty much on par with any men tire class fast food restaurant. I think the reputation comes from the service you may experience. If you have a good server and a good cook and cares about the presentation of food and what he's cooking, then you may end up with some really good food otherwise not so much. that can be said for any restaurant of course
Yes and No. Money is automatically taken out of our checks for meals, and we do have to pay for the larger more expensive meat items if we eat them (although they are largely discounted). However aside from that we can eat pretty much whatever we want so it does feel free.
And unfortunately i am not yet sick of the food lol
The customers are rude and condescencing ALL the time. Because i work the overnight shift we get lots of drunk people.. And i also live in a college town so plenty of young people. People are often impatient and un-sympathetic.
When you are providing a service people often expect that service to be completely smooth and un-interupted, They feel very much entitled to that and will let you know. You would probably be suprised to see how people treat myself and the people i work with.
I see myself working there as long as it continues to be a good source of income and a decent platform to carry myself to my next goal.
And Yesterday. Lol
