Marine Biologist

Southampton, UK

Male, 25

After doing an undergraduate degree in marine biology, I'm now doing a marine biology PhD in the UK at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton. I love what I do, but, contrary to popular belief, very few marine biologists actually swim with dolphins or spend their days scuba diving. In my spare time I edit a blog on marine science. Below is a link to a blog post I wrote on why I dread telling people I'm a marine biologist. I recommend that you check it out!

While flying from North America to panama this March I noticed large pinkish orange marks on the ocean surface . At 30,000 feet they just looked like giant horse shoe shaped plumes of an orange mass miles long.

Hello,
My name is Daniel Baird. I am a student at Steubenville High School in Steubenville Ohio. I am writing a research paper about the profession I intend on entering upon graduating college. For me, that is Marine Biology and I was wondering if you would be willing to answer a few questions. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

1. How does climate change affect coral reefs?

2. What can be done to stop coral bleaching?

3. Why are reefs important to us, i.e. why are reefs valuable to people and our environment?

4. What can people do to help protect coral reefs?

Thank you very much for your time and I hope to hear from you.

Sincerely, Daniel Baird

I'm just going to warn you now that this is a ridiculous question but a lass this is my life. A co-worker and I were having an argument on wether or not a whale's tail could decapitate a person.
