Where do you get your ideas? Do wedding companies scour the Internet for inspiration like Instagram and Pinterest?

There are lot of places that provide inspiration like wedding blogs, magazines, pinterest, instagram, etc!

Why don't wedding venues just offer all-in-one packages (photographer, videographer, florist, the whole lot) such that couples don't have to enlist a gazillion separate vendors?

That's a great question!  Vendors like florists, photographers, hair and make up, etc. are such personal decisions and it would be impossible to have one vendor that fits the needs/style/budget of every bride

What skills are needed to be able to be successful in this occupation.

Hello. My best guy friend's daughter is getting married in early September of this year, and he's invited me to hang with him to make the night more enjoyable/help alleviate the stress of familial issues they've got. He's totally the black sheep of the entire night, but he's close with his daughter. He'll be wearing a tux, so it's very formal. What on earth should I wear? It's not like I'm the step-mom or even dad's girlfriend. Just a friend, but I don't want to do the wrong thing. Please help!
