New York, NY

Female, 21

I was a model for Ford Models in NYC from 2009-2011, and just recently signed with Dorothy Combs models in Miami. I have experienced high fashion modeling, but I now have filled out my size 8/10 frame, and I represent the plus size beauties of the world. I have done runway, print, and showroom modeling. The field can be very fun and glamorous, but it is a business, and a harsh and cruel one at times.

How prevalent are eating disorders in modeling?

Asked by nicola1 over 13 years ago

Very. Mostly in the younger girls who can not withstand the pressure to be thin. You have to have a very strong sense of who you are and what you stand for before coming into an industry like this because if you have not developed self-esteem, you will see your worth become your image and only your image.

What's your opinion on Photoshop re-touching of magazine pictures?

Asked by subtle over 13 years ago

I can understand light retouching of photos, but when you photoshop a picture to the point that it does not even resemble the original, I see that as a waste of money, talent, and time, when you could have created it just from a computer. It also creates a false reality for the general public who view those photos and compare themselves to that which is not real...but that is a whole other story:)

How did you get into modeling?

Asked by pinko over 13 years ago

I did not get discovered like a lot of models do. I actually sent my photos in online when I was 17 to any and every agency I could think of. I was the one-in-a-million that got lucky with Ford models online. Ah, the luxury of the world wide web.

I am 15 living in a small town in New York State. I have a dream to become a model one day but my parents are kind of against it. I’m pretty good at school so they want me to go to college for something academic. What should I do?

How is it that size 8-10 is considered plus size? Sounds more like "normal size" to me! Why aren't models shaped more like average women in the US? Wouldn't that make sense for the folks viewing them, on tv as well as magazines?

Would you say that most models are smarter than the stereotype would suggest? Or is the stereotype there for a reason?
