Is it easier when the bride comes in with a vision of what she wants--or leaves everything up to you?

I love when the bride has a vision so we can make it become a reality for her!! And even if our brides don't come in with a vision we go through lots of pictures, ideas and other things to get a feel for what they like and do not like to help create the design for their day!

How did you get into the wedding planning field and what do you think I should do as a sophomore in college to get into it?

When I was in college I interned for a wedding planner! You have to be willing to work for free in the beginning because it is such a competitive and highly sought after industry! Try to get into anything relating to events! Catering and Rentals are also a good place to learn about event planning!

Why don't more wedding venues have their own wedding planners, so that couples can one-stop-shop?

There is actually a difference between Venue Coordinators and Wedding Coordinators... Your venue coordinator oversees all of the set up and timing regarding to venue...however you need a wedding coordinator to help manage timing of pictures, ceremony, rehearsal, etc....

Do you think that to be a really great wedding planner, you need to first go through a wedding of your own?

I have never been married nor engaged, so I don't think so! I think the most important aspect of a planner aside from all of the planning skills (that come from education and experience) is someone that is empathetic that can connect with a bride on an emotional level as well! :)

I love when couples value our advice since we are experts in our field! We love working with couples that appreciate all the small details that go into weddings but also do not lose sight of the real meaning of the day...their nuptials! However at the end of the day...any bride and groom that is laughing and have a good time make them fun to work with!

My sister's dream was to be a wedding planner but she never tried to make it happen because she said there was too much competition. Is that true? Is there more than in other fields?

It is true, the wedding industry in general is very competitive, especially in Southern California and especially in Orange County! However, I really feel that there are enough brides for everyone and each vendor has a different personality so there is a good fit for everyone!

My partner and I are getting married in May. We do not know if we are living in America or Australia so we don't want to register anywhere since we don't know where we will be living. What should we put on our website?

You could always go the route of doing a honeymoon or cash registry! I recommend www.honeyfund.com .... it allows you to register for activities on your honeymoon, but at the end of the day it just deposits the cash right into your account!
